How to play
The Galton Board is an intriguing testament to the central limit theorem, a theorem that is indeed “central” in the theory of probability. Traditionally, it showcases the descent of small spheres through an array of pegs, creating a bell curve known as the Gaussian distribution. Each sphere, while colliding with a peg, can fall to the left or right with equal probability.
Our Virtual Reality application offers an immersive digital version of the Galton Board. Within this immersive virtual environment, the intricate dynamics of the physical apparatus are faithfully mirrored, enriched by a touch of virtual enchantment. Diverging from reality’s constraints, our VR platform empowers users to customize the probabilities associated with spheres bouncing on the left or on the right as they hit each peg. This feature allows the creation of different shapes depending on the probability set. Additionally, the interactions within this immersive domain are governed by the precision and nuance of hand tracking and gestures. The absence of external controllers augments the immersive quality of the experience.
he Galton Baord is a device originally invented by Sir Francis Galton (1822 –1911) who was Charles Darwin cousin sharing a common grandfather.
To set up the VR experience, it is necessary to download the .apk software, load it onto the VR visor, set up the action space with the visor software, and play the game according to the methods given in the introduction. You can use two different game mode: for adult (ALTO) and for child (BASSO).
SPACE REQUIREMENTS: Each oculus is required to have an action space in which the participant can move safely. The applications developed have a fruition mode that takes advantage of the oculus roomscale boundary. This system requires a minimum play area space of 2 meters by 2 meters and a maximum of 10. The play area must be safe and unobstructed.
INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIREMENTS: Each location is required to have a wifi connection strong enough to maintain oculus-computer connection for both display-only (tower of hanoi and the wisdom of the crowd) and communication (tower of hanoi for players under 13 and the pet race)
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION: Requirements: Each Oculus Quest 2 has an average charging time of 2½ hours and its battery life on average is also 2½ hours so it will be necessary to have a power outlet near the location. In addition, the pc for external viewing will also need an outlet to be powered.
LIGHT Requirements: The applications use hand tracking as the interaction method, so oculus will need to have good lighting of the surrounding space for it to work. The light will need to be diffuse and nothing direct and possibly not direct sunlight.
